Dream a Little

It's in you to give.

I can't imagine any other brand having a slogan as clever/appropriate/perfect as that of Canadian Blood Services.

This past summer, I made my 25th blood donation and they gave me this lovely pin to mark the occasion. They give people little gifts like this for many milestone donations. One of my favourite experiences while at my blood donation appointment was someone celebrating their 100th donation, and the fine folks at Canadian Blood Services had a cake there to celebrate. Seeing so many people (and being one of them!) enjoy that cake made me think that I'd like to donate 100 times in my life so that other people who donate that day get to have cake.

Cake aside, I need your help. I want to make 52 blood donations this year. I'm only allowed to give 6 times, so I need other people to fill in the other 46, and if we can give even more than that, great! I've partnered with Canadian Blood Services (in their "Partners for Life" program) to create the "Dream a Little" team, and whether you're a regular donor already, or would like to give saving lives a shot for the first time, you can join me now and we can be part of something beautiful together.

To join the Dream a Little team, simply click the button below, which will take you to the Canadian Blood Services website*, where you can either create an account or sign in to your existing account. This account is where you may schedule donation appointments, see your donation history, check on the progress of our team, or if you're a nerd like me, look at some of your donation statistics, like how long each donation took, or what your hemoglobin level was at each appointment (eat your greens!). Once your account is created and/or you're signed in, simply click the "Join the team" button that you should see on the screen. That's it! You're in! Let's go save some lives together!

*Alternatively, you may download and use the GiveBlood app to create/sign in to your account on your mobile device.

Note: for those not able/eligible to donate blood, or looking for additional ways to support our team, please see below.

Can't give blood? No problem.

Age, health status, physiology, lifestyle, or even fear or trauma might be reasons why someone wouldn't be comfortable, able, and/or eligible as a blood donor. I didn't want that to interfere with your ability to help us save lives, so we've also set it up so that people can make a financial contribution to Canadian Blood Services and/or join the Stem Cell Registry (please read about it and consider it).

Note: for those not able/eligible, or looking for another way to support the Dream a Little team, please see below.

Donate (not blood) now

#PFLDreamTeam

Whether or not you donate blood, make a financial contribution, and/or sign up for the Stem Cell Registry, you can still help the Dream a Little team save lives by posting on your social media platforms with the following hashtag: #PFLDreamTeam. You can post about your donation experience, invite a buddy to join you for your appointment, share a photo of yourself in the bed/chair, or your arm during (hmmm) or after your donation, or maybe the delicious post-donation snacks you're enjoying. Even if you don't donate, and just share an awareness post about the need for more donors, that can be very helpful, especially if someone in your circle decides to do it. Feel free to ask them to join the Dream a Little team. The more the merrier!

I live, work, and create on the ancestral lands of the Attawandaron and the treaty territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit. I am honoured, humbled, and grateful to have continued opportunities to learn the true history of where I call home, and from those whose ancestors were the First Peoples of these lands. In return, it is my responsibility to advocate for and take personal steps towards reconciliation so that our collective present and future can be brighter than our past.
